Off To The Doctor Again...

This evening we went in to see Ella's pediatrician. I thought we were going to get a good report because Ella had started to play today and cough a bit less frequently. Her cough was even starting to loosen a bit, but when we went in and they tested her oxygen levels, she was 90% saturated (which is fine, it's just not 100% which she normally is), which told us that she was either tired from all of the hard work (breathing and coughing) she'd done over the past few days, or she was trying to breathe through all the yucky stuff in her chest because she was also wheezing. The doctor said that it sounded like she was wheezing and that her right lung may be a bit deflated. After giving Ella a breathing treatment and listening to her again, she thought that it sounded a tiny bit better, but she wanted to get her on steroids to open everything up so that she could breathe easy tonight.

Well, in theory, that's great, but since we were the last case of the day, when we realized that she forgot to fax over the prescription to the pharmacy, the doctor and everyone in the office was already gone, so I spent much of the evening on my phone with after-hours doctors trying to get the prescription over to the pharmacy, only to find out that the pharmacy was out of the medication and wouldn't get it in until morning and there were no other pharmacies in Nampa that carried it.

Soooo, we are trying to make it through the night on Albuterol (inhaler). Prayers are much appreciated. :)

Basically, what the doctor thinks is going on (without looking at a chest x-ray because she's trying to avoid over-exposing the poor x-rayed girl) is that it's probably a case of asthma (she can't officially diagnose it, a pulmonologist has to diagnose her) that has been brought on either by her acid reflux or more likely by aspirating the fluids that she drinks. There are three docs (pulmonologist, pediatrician and Ear Nose and Throat) on Ella's case all trying to work together to figure out what's going on without stepping on eachother's toes and each one a specialist in their own right... So I think the next step is to have another swallow-study done to see if Ella's drinks are actually going to her tummy like they are supposed to or if some of it is going down her wind-pipe and causing these problems. Another unknown is if her hypoplastic lungs from birth are still tiny or irritable and causing these problems...?

It's been a bit crazy around here with lack of sleep, wheezing, crying, coughing, etc... but I tell you what...we would not be able to handle all of this without Jesus carrying us through. He has been so present and has guided us through each day. It's meant so much to me to read all of your uplifting comments and to see the messages of how God had put us on people's hearts before they even saw my message! How amazing is that! How much proof do we need that there is a Maker and Creator of our universe that is madly in love with us!?! I am so thankful and so blessed to walk hand in hand and sometimes in the arms of Jesus through this life.

Thank you for your prayers! God is Almighty, and so, we will not be defeated!

Prayer for Ella Belle

Please keep our Ella Belle in your prayers. She's been taking short, quick breaths for two days now and coughing so frequently and violently. Yesterday, her coughs were so intense that she threw up. We took her to Quick Care yesterday and the Physician's assistant urged us to go straight to the E.R. because of Ella's breathing, cough, slight fever (but she was on preventative antibiotics for her incision, so it was odd for her to be running a fever), and aches and pains in her tummy. She wanted blood tests and x-rays done to rule out infections and/or pneumonia, RSV, collapsed lung, etc... Feeling frustrated that we had just gone and spent $ at Quick Care and received no answers, we went home and called Ella's pediatrician's after-hours number and talked to the on-call nurse. She also urged us to go straight to the E.R., so we went. When we arrived and after we saw the doctor, he was so busy with a patient that was having heart troubles, that i

Trip To the Doc's

Ella's trip to the doctor today was successful.  Some of you who follow us on facebook may have read that Ella had a case of Hemotoma (a build up of blood or a pocket of fluid/blood) under the incision.  We went into Ella's new pediatrician in Meridian to have it popped and drained.  Ella actually did really well!  She was really calm as the doctor was squeezing the incision, trying to release the fluid.  While she was being poked and prodded, Ella sang and recited Bible verses, until, the doctor had no success in releasing the build-up by just pressing, so she resorted to trying to puncture the "bubble" with her surgical prongs.  At that, Ella's attention was fully on what the doctor was doing and started to wiggle and fuss for the remaining 10 or so minutes that the doctor worked and filled gauze pieces with the blood that oozed out after the pocket was popped. Trying to calm Ella down, the doctor asked Ella what her favorite Bible verse was and through te
