Just a Thought

Tonight I went to coffee with a new friend.  It was extremely eye-opening.  She revealed to me that she craved in-depth conversations about God and be able to candidly share what He has done in her life without feeling awkward.  It just hit me like a ton of bricks, like a freight train or whatever analogy you need...that people are hungry for Jesus and communion with believers, even if they are already saved!  We are to live in community with others.  How are we to function as the body of Christ if the parts of the body aren't connected? Romans 12:5 "so in Christ we, though many, form one body , and each member belongs to all the others." How many times do I pass people on the street, in the grocery store or even at church and not even make eye-contact?  What if all they needed that day was a smile or one "hello" to keep afloat?  I commit today to be more intentional and to ask Jesus who I am supposed to connect with that day.  Just a...

Ella's Surgery Update

Ok, here's the update! Ella's surgery went really well! The surgery itself only took about an hour, but we didn't get Ella back for about 2 1/2 hours. They said she did really really well though. Ella and Daddy in pre-op Basically, they just took the hardware o ut of Ella's leg (which we were surprised by HOW MUCH was in there!) and then they also cut her old scar out (5 or 6" scar that had bubbled) and tried to sew it together so that it will heal nicely. Once we got Ella back, we had a VERY cranky girl. The anesthesia had a horrid effect on her. She cried and yelled about EVERYTHING (which is not Ella at all). It could be a cute puppy on tv and she'd scream with tears streaming down her face, "Oh, look at that cute puppy." :) Poor little thing.  Ella and Mommy in pre-op Ella and  the anesthesiologist "dressing" Ella for surgery upon request Another trial was the fact that Ella was not oxygenating very wel...

Camouflage

How do you camouflage Autism? Can you somehow get magical clothes that make you "blend in" in the midst of flapping hands, shouting whispers, shouting shouting , jumping in terror and covering ears at regular sounds, spinning in circles, manipulating and inspecting an object for hours at a time, screaming at the idea of getting in a shower, stomping feet, biting, pinching, jumping away from a pat on the arm, and melt-downs?  If so, sign us up! I'd like to order the special "blend-in" clothes for WalMart (especially for the check-out lane), church and neighborhood purposes.  Machine washable preferably! Each of these places create the toughest arenas to regulate Autism symptoms and also end up creating the largest spectacle opportunities. While strolling down the isles of WalMart in the top toddler seat of a shopping cart, on most occasions, Ella can be seen (and heard) aggressively chewing on her bright green chewy (or poor little toy of choice) while sing...
